Now you can rack up the bikes and still access your tailgate. The BackSwing hitch adapter turns your hitch product into an easy-to-use swing-away rack that locks up tight while you're on the road. It works seamlessly with most 2" bike racks, like the HoldUp EVO - as well as almost any other rack using a 2" receiver - to let you swing your fully loaded rack out of the way so you can easily get to your coolers, gear, and Fido.

      Love it!

The Back Swing has been phenomenal so far. I had the Stage Two already, and while a great bike rack in its own right, it made getting into the back of my vehicle impossible, even with the rack tilted down. Enter the Back Swing. Paired with the Stage Two I can now comfortably carry two 42lb E-MTB's AND get into the back of my vehicle no problem. I was initially a little concerned about the distance between the back of our vehicle and the first bike but I soon learned that that distance was necessary to swing out safely and clear the back end of a vehicle. Also, when stowing the Stage Two in the upright position when the bikes are not mounted, you'll need that extra room so the bike rack doesn't bash your brake lights. So, very happy with this purchase and I highly recommend it.

      So useful

So great to have with a hatchback car. Very easy to swing the bikes away and access the cargo area. Can’t believe I waited this long to get one. Backswing is very sturdy and is very easy to operate.

      Great product

Yes, the bikes float in space, but this thing is a beast. Contrary to the Mercedes Sprinter owner who couldn't open his right door all the way, I have no problem with my Ram 2500 right rear door opening. This thing has made taking the bikes on trips while still being able to get in our travel van "basement" without taking off the bikes. Great product. Would buy again.

      Fabulously sturdy product

Extremely happy with this product when it comes to strength. Would’ve given it five stars except that it doesn’t allow for a left side swing, only a right - as another reviewer has reported. (I’m lucky though that the swing to the right suits me due to our slide-on camper and its left hand side awning/canopy.)

      Great after modifications

We needed a solution to retain the amazing utility of our Honda Element tailgate. After buying the Backswing and installing our Holdup2 the length was completely comical. The tongue of the rack stuck out so far that it was like the bikes were floating way behind the car.
I took drastic action; cut the pivot off the Holdup2’s tongue and welded it to the top of the Backswing’s receiver. Perfect. The tailgate glass opens and the bikes just clear the back of the car when open.
The main functional problem I have with this thing is you can’t flip the pivot location side because the exhaust has burnt all the plastic caps off the pivot and whatever spacers have been installed in there.

      LOVE IT

I put this on the back of my van with a four bike rack. it works perfectly. I can go up to the mountains and have an awesome time riding with friends, put the bikes on the back and still access the rear of my van. I have a GMC Savana 4x4 with a custom built out kitchen in the back, so in order to eat I have to be able to open both doors. This is why this is so important. It also helped clear my rear swing tire rack so that way I could use all 4 bike spots. :) Purchased at REI. Love it love it love it.

      Sturdy but not without flaws.

As some other have said this item pushed your hitch back so far that you might not even need the swing functionality by the time you have your item mounted. Additionally I wish the receiver was not closed at the end, it prevents me from pushing my hitch mounted item (in this case a tire carrier) back as far as I would like. Otherwise the construction seems sturdy and it doesn't really wobble at all. Happy with the purchase.

      Backswing for my Jeep

I have a Jeep Wrangler JK and I have the Yakima Holdup racks. For the past few years I have not had access to the back of my Jeep when I have my bike rack on. This solves that problem. It works perfect. I can now get into the back of my Jeep with the rack on and even when I am loaded with bikes. It is rock solid and great quality. I am very happy with this purchase. My rack feels more stable with this and I also have more clearance in the rear because it raises up the rack. I highly recommend this for all Jeep owners!!!!!

Great product. Works on lifted jeep with large spare with some mods

I hope this review helps other Jeep owners looking for a bike transport solution other than the spare tire mounted variety. Video of final instal here: https://youtu.be/sPf1JruphCU I have been trying to figure out a good solution to attach my Yakima holdup 2 to my Jeep. The issue I have faced is I have added a 2.5in lift with 35in tires, so the spare is quite large. I tried hitch extenders, but they were wobbly and longer than needed. Also, the rack was always in the way when on. With this I was able to finally have access to my entire trunk while having bikes attached. Works great even with the holdup plus 2 attached (that’s 4 bikes) that can easily swing away. Just a couple installation notes: I had to remove my tire and set the tire holder on the Jeep door to the heighest level to make this work. The handle to release and lock the backswing still rubs on the side of the spare slightly, but it’s more than workable. If my bike rack is up when I swing it open the door will not open far enough to open the glass, you must have the rack folded down to open the gate far enough to open the glass. If you were to find an extender that dropped down maybe just 2 inches more much of this would be easier, but i’m Very happy with the install and final result. Easy assembly, solid construction. This is a win for Yakima. The only thing I wish it has were some thick rubber protection on the safety clamps on both sides, it scratches and will rust before the rest of the product reaches the end of its life.

      Great Product..however

Finally got my hands on this product. the product is solid, good materials used and heavy. The weight of this item will lean to the right. When I installed the product and attached my holdup I didn't realize how much it extended the entire system. It looks like if I added the 2+ extension. Plus with the Backswing it gives me so much clearance I don't even have to swing it out to open my rear door to access small or short items. In the demo pictures you may notice it is being demo using a SUV with spare tire mounted in the back. With this combo the system looks natural.
